Goals Update: January

It's time to get down to business - again.

Traveling twice this morning really put my schedule out of whack... and I hate not being on a schedule!  So let's get right into the 2014 goals.

1. GET REGULAR EXERCISE/COMMIT TO THE GYM - Um started.... with plans to get better.  I finally got a three day workout from Lauren and have gone to try out the first two days.  With travel and already made plans, I did my best.  My goal is to start next week (that first week of February) with a regular 3 day schedule.  Then, I would like to find a class or two to add in each week.  It's been a slow start, but I feel guilty about it - so there's hope it will actually happen.

2. DEVELOP THAT CAREER PATH - Well on my way.  I signed up for the remaining classes I needed to get my 100 credits to apply for the CAE exam in May.  Which means now I better start studying!  Also, my mentor invited me to a Executive Forum as her "rising star" and my resume is being circulated.  This is a really good start.

3. BE MORE WILLING TO BE SPUR OF THE MOMENT -  haha,  um.  Well, I haven't had too many opportunities this month because of things already being booked and travel for work.  We'll see how February goes.

Happy Birthday Kayla!

Today is Kayla's 3rd birthday.  I can't believe it was already three years ago that I was driving down to the hospital late on a Friday night to meet this little one.

She totally rocks my world and I hope that she and I maintain a close relationship as she gets older.

Golden Globes 2014 Fashion

I love Award show season purely for the red carpets.  Though, to be honest, you get better views of the dresses in the photos after.  They don't see to show anything worthwhile during those red carpet shows.  And E!, that mani-cam.... enough.

I yesterday I had on the pre-show and the pre-pre-show while I was doing some other stuff and only made it through the first hour and a half before I bailed to watch Downton Abbey.

I did scope out quite a few dresses and after browsing again this morning online, I have three categories.  LOVE, Undecided, and Incredibly disappointed/What was she thinking!

So, on with the photos!

LOVE

Cate Blanchett - the dark lace... the back.... the simple hair and jewelry.  Amazing!

I mean, check out that back!

Julianna Margulies - She said on the red carpet she felt very "bad princess".  I kind of liked that about it.

Kate Beckinsale - LOVE, although she doesn't tend to wear the same thing all the time.

Lily Rabe - I don't watch American Horror Story so I had to look her up.  But this dress is amazing.

Lupita Nyong - I know it is very similar to Gwyneth Paltrow's 2012 Oscar dress, but it's still lovely.

Margot Robbie - So simple and very wearable for us non-celebrities.  I see a Rent the Runway knockoff in the future.  Also... those green Loubs... come on.

Olivia Wilde - FTW.  Seriously.  She wins.  This dress has two of my favorite components... it's green and its sparkly.  And she knocked it out.

And lastly for the loves, this red number that Tina Fey wore.

In an overall review, I was pleased to see so many column style dresses instead of mermaids, mermaids, mermaids.

UNDECIDED

Caitlin Fitzgerald - I think I want to love this dress and the color, but I can't decide because of the mock turtlneck.

Emma Watson - a dress and pants.  I love the dress and I guess this is a pretty interesting way to address the completely open back.  I don't know.

Sandra Bullock - Colorblocking, the sweeping helm, the deep v neckline.  I can't decide.

And finally....  and most sadly...

INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED/WHAT WAS SHE THINKING

Jennifer Lawrence - JLaw, you broke my heart with this dress.  I was looking forward most to seeing you and Kerry Washington... and this dress... come on.

and speaking of Kerry Washington - oh Kerry, no.  Just no.  This disappointed me more than JLaw.  I can't.  The hip flaps, the boring color.  Maybe she just isn't feeling very wonderful in her pregnant body, but ugh.  She phoned it in.  So disappointing.

Julia Roberts - did she just come from the office?

Paula Patton - oh good God no!  Aren't we over the giant ruffle stage yet??

Zooey Deschanel - She is seriously the cutest, yet she manages to look the dowdiest she possible can.

Is it too early to be in a slump?

Maybe it's the fact that the weather has been so cold that I have been in hibernation for the last 4 days, but I feel a slump coming on.

It's too early for that right?  I mean, it's only 7 days into the new year.  I haven't even had time to fail at my goals.

Here's to staying warm and eventually taking a shower - yep, I said it.

Getting Organized in 2014

Late yesterday evening, Leslie send me an email asking if I was going to participate in Apartment Therapy's January Cure.

The premise, is the follow along with the 30 activities during the month of January to kick start your year of progress.

So I figured - why not.  I love organizing and making progress and feeling like I'm accomplishing things.  Why not.

So I signed up.

Basically, they send you an email every day with what your "project" for the day is.  Interested?

You can still sign up.

It just started yesterday and yesterday's task was to walk through your house and make a project list.  Then narrow down that list.

This weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) is to buy flowers, mop and vacuum all floors and get your green cleaners together.

You can also see the PDF of the full month.

So if you are interested, sign up.

I will be finishing my project list tonight and was already planning on a good cleaning this weekend - so I'm totally on the ball! :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm openly admitting that I was/am not happy about having to go back to work.  I really enjoyed my 10 days off.  It was very busy at times, but I enjoyed that.

I wasn't planning on doing anything for NYE, but my friend Jes invited me to be her date to the party at the Palmer House.  I figured, since I have not ever been to one of those big hotel parties, I should give it a shot.  Plus, I have a good time hanging out with Jes.

I threw an outfit together - and tried to work it with my newly darkened hair.  :)

It really was an interesting party - though we only stayed for a couple of hours.  Celebrated midnight and then headed off to another bar where Jes's friends were hanging out.
