Two 101 goals completed during this vacation. How great is that? I better get on the ball with paying myself $10 a goal. Or at least writing it down somewhere since my jar is already packed away.
Anyways, while we were in Hawai'i, Melissa, Lauren, Justin, Brendan and I took a surfing lesson. Okay, technically, Justin did not take the lesson, but he was in the water with us.
I was really worried that I was not going to be able to stand up once. I felt a little bit more comfortable after we did the stand up paddleboarding (more on that in my recap). Ocain and Sam were great teachers. They took us out a ways, but still closer than the other surfers were. They gave us some basic instructions and then said that they would tell us when to start paddling and we were supposed to paddle as hard as possible. They would then count "1, 2,3..." and on 3 you are supposed to stand up.
They said the most difficult part for new surfers is NOT the standing up part, but the timing with the waves. So they both were there to give us that extra push on 3 to get us on the wave the right way.
All four of us stood up on the first attempt and were able to ride between 6-10 waves. They weren't big whoppers, but they were enough to coast us a ways before we either stopped or fell off. :)
Here's a few photos that my mom and dad captured of the event. I'm the one in the black rash guard.... I certainly was prepared to dress the part.
I really had a blast and would definitely do it again!

I'm so proud!
